Introduction to laparoscopy

• At the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
  • Understand the history of laparoscopy that has bearing to the current practice of
    MA&IS
  • Understand the physiological changes associated with pneumoperitoneum
  • Identify the equipment and instruments used in laparoscopy
  • Understand the principles of safe access
  • Describe the principles of appropriate and safe energy source
  • Practice on:
    • basic eye hand coordination
    • depth perception
    • basic suturing and knot tying techniques
    • Manipulation and dissection
